Well, today I saw the newest Disney movie to hit theaters, Zootopia, and boy did I love it! Now, I promise to do my best to avoid spoilers, but there are some things in this movie that I feel really need to be said. SO, without further ado, let's get started.

Plot: Our main protagonist is newly appointed police officer Judy Hopps, an energetic, eager, and kindhearted rabbit who unintentionally ends up involved in a missing animals case with her job on the line. To this end, she recruits sly, smooth talking scam artist Nick Wilde to help her learn what has happened to them and, in the process, uncovers a malicious plot that could completely destroy Zootopia.

The Good: MY GOD, where can I even start? I personally believe that this film could not have come out at a better time than now. But, let's start off small, starting with the animation. This is an incredible looking movie. From the environments to the characters, everything looks fantastic. Fur, water, everything looks as real as animation can get, possibly even trumping 2014's Big Hero 6. Furthermore, there are a large number of wonderful looking environments, from the frigid looking Tundratown to the wet and rainy Rainforest District, each one just as well detailed as the last. There are other environments as well, but they don't have as much of a focus.

Next, the story and characters. The story is a sort of modern day film noir, and truly evokes a fascinating sense of mystery. Watching the mystery slowly unfold, with more and more layers tucked away really helps you to get invested. And the characters help it even more, with wonderful protagonists like the sweet, but clever Judy and sly, yet vulnerable Nick. These two pair together so well and really form a cute, effective duo by the end. Other fun characters, like the helpful, but beleaguered assistant mayor Bellwether, the hilariously slow DMV worker Flash, and obvious Godfather parody Mr. Big help to further flesh out the story and provide some clever humor as well.

And finally, but most important, is the message that the film sends. This movie, I feel, helps to promote the dangers and problems of racism. I won't go into more, but in today's society, with people like Donald Trump flouting how we must get rid of immigrants and those who are a "threat", a movie like this is honestly needed to show why this sort of thinking is dangerous and harmful.

The Bad: Admittedly, I have very little I can criticize with this film. At most, it was unfortunate that the film didn't have ANY sign of reptiles or other animals. Most likely, they did this so the film wouldn't feel too cluttered, but it might annoy some people who would like to see all sorts of animals portrayed in the film. Also, there's a small lull during the film where not much happens. It's nothing unbearable, but you may notice it.

Overall: GO SEE THIS MOVIE. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. Take your kids, take your friends, take anyone, and make sure you spread the word. This movie is wonderful and really needs to be seen.

Score: 10/10 and two thumbs up
